DIY Cinnamon Apple Strudel in Phyllo
Tom loves apple desserts so I was bound and determined to get this one together...but never again for the Phyllo. The filling is super tasty so next time I'll make it with my own pie crust recipe instead. If you're ready to tackle this project here's the recipe.
SERVES: 6
PREP TIME: 40 minutes
COOK TIME: 40-45 minutes
INGREDIENTS:
6 layers of Phyllo dough
1/4 cup brown sugar
Walnut oil (for brushing)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/2 cup raisins
PREPARATION:
1. Preheat oven to 350*F
2. In a large bowl, mix the spices. Cut up the apples and add to the spices then add the raisins. Toss to coat.
3. Stack layers of dough and brush each layer the walnut oil before putting on the next layer of dough.
4. Add the apple and spice mixture to 1/2 of the dough lengthwise. Fold the top edge over the filling and the roll the dough up to seal on the other 3 edges.
5. Brush with walnut oil and sprinkle with more cinnamon/sugar.
6. Place on a cookie sheet in the oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is a light brown. Remove from oven and cool. It flakes up while cooling.
SERVING:
Cut the log into 6 slices and serve warm. It would be great with a dollop of vanilla ice cream too!
Bon appetit,
Tom and Anita
Ps; Puff pastry would be delicious and might be easier.
