DIY Pork Chops with Apple and Onions Smothered in Maple Syrup
Good, thick bone-in pork chops are one of our favorite meats. Not only do they taste fabulous, tender and juicy but you can cook them with so many different flavor enhancers. This time we opted for smothering them in apples and caramelized onions sauteed in a rich maple syrup sauce.

It's basically a one pan dish that cooks up really quick and tastes delicious! We like the Fuji apples because they are so complex in flavor, both sweet and tart, but you can certainly cook up your favorite apple with this dinner. We also prefer the red onions but, once again, you can use a white or yellow onion instead. Just get out the saute pan and start cookin'.

SERVES:                        2
PREP TIME:                   7 minutes
COOK TIME:      about 25 minutes

INGREDIENTS:
2 bone in pork chops
Fresh ground black pepper to taste
Granulated garlic to taste
Olive oil to cover bottom of pan
1 red onion, sliced thin
3 large cloves of garlic, sliced thin
1 Fuji apple, cored and sliced about 1/8"
Juice from 1/2 lemon
1/4-1/3 cup maple syrup

PREPARATION:
1. Sprinkle pork chops with pepper and granulated garlic. Set aside.
2. Cut the onions and set aside.
3. Cut the apples then squeeze the lemon juice over the slices. Set aside.
4. Heat the olive oil in a non stick pan. When pan is hot, add the pork chops and saute about 5 minutes per side or until done. Set the cooked pork chops in a warming oven with plates to warm as well.
5. Add the cut up onion to the saute pan and cook about 5 minutes. Then add the apples with the lemon juice, the garlic and the maple syrup and cook another 7-8 minutes until apples and onions are soft. In the last 3-4 minutes add the pork chops back into the pan and cover with the maple syrup to flavor them.

PLATING:
1. Place the pork chops on the warm plate and add the onions on top of the meat. Arrange the apples decoratively and garnish with something green such as parsley. 
2. Spoon the maple syrup over the meat and apples. Enjoy!
